Cosplay, comic books, anime, manga, other creatives, film & series, games (including video and esports) and books/authors…the stuff dream conventions are made of. But we had one thing on our minds: to claim victory in an Overwatch tourney.
We went into day one confidently, especially after our first win against 8bit oddity. Next up we were to take on Eden, the top-ranked team in the country, and WHAT a match it was. Both teams experienced two wins and two losses, drew on the 5th and then played a nail-biting tiebreaker. Naturally, an Overwatch tiebreaker consists of BO1 in King of the Hill, a mode that Eden is notoriously good at. We lost, but our final match of the day saw us taking on Dominion and coming out victorious.
After the day’s matches, we relaxed and were able to enjoy the rest of what Comic Con had to offer before, in anticipation of the following day’s matches, retiring reasonably early.
Day two saw us taking on Boostios. They brought out some sizzling gameplay and knocked us into the elimination bracket. Taken by surprise at the ferocity of Boostios we licked our wounds and discussed strategy.
Taking on 2CP next, we were pleasantly surprised by how much they had improved, both as individual players and as a team. We came out of a very hard-fought match victorious, positioning us against Boostios for the second time. And for the second time, we were defeated, knocking us out of the tourney and forcing us to accept an overall 3rd place.
Now it was time to sit back, relax, and enjoy the rest of the tournament. The other teams played very well, Eden ultimately snatching 1st place.
Overall everyone had an amazing experience and it wouldn’t have been possible without ATK Arena, our incredible sponsors. We look forward to the next championships. We’re going strong and are constantly working towards being better.
